Recently, the Miao opera “Train Passing Miao Village”, created by the Miao opera troupe of Huayuan County in Xiangxi Prefecture, appeared at the first Outstanding Drama Performance of Rare Chinese Operas, which is the only one selected in the province.
The drama tells the story of A Xiu, an embroidery designer from Shibadong Village, who struggles to choose between family and career. Cai Wei, head of the troupe, said that the drama is close to rural life, starts with the departure scene when A Xiu goes out to work, focuses on the realistic theme of “leaving home and returning home”, and vividly tells the story of rural revitalization in the new era.
Miao opera is the youngest of the 19 local opera genres in Hunan Province, created in Malichang Town, Huayuan County. The Miao Opera Troupe of Huayuan County is the only professional Miao opera art group in China. It has created more than 40 large and small Miao operas and won more than 20 national, provincial, and prefecture-level awards.
The troupe regularly carries out public-interest cultural programs in rural areas, and provides free training sessions for 40,000 cultural and artistic talents every year, continuously enhancing the influence and vitality of rare opera genres.
